“With fame comes opportunity, but it also includes responsibility—to advocate and share, to focus less on glass slippers and more on pushing through glass ceilings. And, if I’m lucky enough, to inspire.” (ELLE UK, 2016)
When she was Meghan Markle the Duchess of Sussex had millions of followers on social media whom she interacted with. She empowered many young women to live their best life and encourage them to become world changers. It is evident in her humanitarian work and interviews where she interacted with such fans.
When the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were in Australia she encountered Hannah. Hannah stated that the Duchess of Sussex supported her through her struggles with mental health and encouraged her to excel in school when she was struggling at university. Hannah said she had been a fan of the actress since 2014.
“She encouraged me to do what I love and be the best version of myself I can be,” she said.
“I had to drop out of my course but she was still so sweet, encouraging me to keep going,” she added.
Fast forward to Christmas at Sandringham where another young fan Jessica held up a sign with her twitter handle and the Duchess immediately recognized her old social media friend whom she had never met in person.
“I’m so glad I decided to watch Suits many years ago because it meant I discovered this kind-hearted, caring soul who I’d [come] to love so much. Thank you for everything in the past couple years – I’ll never forget it – from the conversations about social issues + chatting to each other about your blog and your love for food. I love you always.”
It is without doubt that these young women and the Duchess will continue to support each other and that these young women will change their communities in the years to come because they have been inspired by Duchess Meghan.
