I like this TIG post because it gives us insight into Meghan, Duchess of Sussex as a mother and what she believes about parenting. There is no greater influence in a child’s life than that of a mother. The hand that rocks the cradle rules the nation.
The former Meghan Markle was Editor in Chief of lifestyle blog ‘The Tig’ interviewed people she thought were worth knowing. One such person was Ivanka Trump. The saying goes ‘some people are born great but the former Meghan Markles has admiration for those who achieve greatness.
The Tig interview with Ivanka Trump is most eye opening. Not only does it give us a glimpse into the life of Ivanka Trump. More importantly it offers us vision of the illustrious former Meghan Markle now Duchess of Sussex. More importantly it gives insight into what Meghan values, and insight into what she considers as success in parenting. Through this interview we understand how she will raise Archie Harrison.
“It’s so easy to knock the girls who come from privilege—to assume they rested on their laurels and garnered accolades simply by being fancy from the womb. But I remember Ivanka being different.”
Meghan respected Ivanka’s ability to diversify her business portfolio and appreciated Ivanka’s responsible nature.
Let’s take a moment and discuss Ivanka Trump. Staggeringly beautiful, no question, but so incredibly savvy and intelligent that she’s not just carved a niche for herself under her father’s famed Trump notoriety, she has undoubtedly created her own empire. It’s so easy to knock the girls who come from privilege – to assume they rested on their laurels and garnered accolades simply by being fancy from the womb. But I always remember Ivanka being different – she wasn’t dancing on tables as a teenager or releasing pop albums. She wasn’t running amuck publicly, swearing and being smacked with DUIs. Instead she was graduating from The Wharton School (cum laude, I might add), launching the Trump Hotel Collection, and building her own brand. Her eponymous brand, which, by the way, seems to include every covetable thing one could imagine. Don’t get me started on her jewelry collection: the late night “window shopping” I have done on my computer, snuggled up in my bed with a glass of wine, staring longingly at the beautiful designs. And there are the shoes, the home collection, the clothing, and the natural extension of her brand with a kids collection – a smart choice given that she is now a proud mama.
TIG TALK
She does it all. And when I sent an email asking to do a TIG Talk, not only did she get back to me immediately with such honest responses, but we also began planning drinks and dinner for the next time I was in NY. I often ask powerful and successful women how they balance it all – juggling work, being a mom & wife, taking time for yourself and taking care of yourself, straddling the line between letting yourself go or looking like you just stepped off a runway (or at least had the time to put some lipstick on). How do they do it? How does she do it? This much I know – when we have drinks, I will make sure I order whatever she does – because this woman seems to have the formula for success (and happiness) down pat.
- My nickname is: Eva.
- The first thing I do when I wake up is: Brush my teeth and then meditate for 15 minutes (unless it is a screaming baby rather than an alarm that is waking me!)
- I can’t live without: My husband, 2 sweet children and chapstick.
- If I had one week to escape: I would visit Patagonia. I have been 2 times and there is no place more special.
- If I only had $10 in my pocket: I would take my husband and daughter for an ice-cream date at the Mr. Softie truck on the corner of 5th and 58th street and still have enough money left over to buy her a balloon across the street in Central Park.
- Everything tastes better with a little: Salt.
