Prince Harry Duke of Sussex spoke to Patrick Hutchinson. The British magazine  GQ reached out to the Duke several weeks ago with the idea of a candid, open conversation between the Duke and Hutchinson, This conversation was part of GQ’s content in support of Black History Month and to launch this year’s GQ Heroes festival. The festival is part of  the magazine’s annual summit of ideas, culture and thought leadership.

Prince Harry was engaged, driven and committed to global fight against racism and white supremacy. As he interviewed Patrick he began by asking Patrick to introduce himself. Patrick Hutchinson is a father of four and a grandfather.Patrick Hutchinson looks very good for his age. He went to university and studied computers in his earlier years. Hutchinson is an admirer of Princess Diana and so it was only fitting to talk to Prince Harry who is carrying on Diana’s legacy.

Since meeting his beloved wife Meghan, Harry  has become an advocate for people of colour who make up most of the Commonwealth.

 Our Commonwealth is very, very mixed but as someone said to me lots of people are getting very excited about the fact the Duchess is mixed race.

Role models

When racism against Prince Harry’s wife the Meghan , Duchess of Sussex 72 British MPs broke their silence to stop the media madness. They showed global leadership at a time when it was lacking from Buckingham palace. The royal family gave up their moral and spiritual leadership when they decided to remain silent amid human rights violations at Kensington palace.

The racist, sexist colonial undertones in the comment pieces and the relentless campaign against the former Meghan Markle begs the question why? Given that Prince Charles is leader of the Commonwealth he would be bothered about the colonial undertones in the reporting, but this was not the case. In the midst of this the 72 British MPs showed that they had the courage to stand up for what is right.

More than a symbol, Meghan is a game changer. She was the founder of the lifestyle brand The Tig. The Tig was a global hub for empowerment. Before marrying into the Royal family Meghan Markle worked on women in leadership and politics. Her focus was economic development for all people including Black or African people. Prince Harry started a charity Sentebale to show that Black Lives Matter.

It is even more disheartening to see the head of the Commonwealth remain silent on the issue of Black Lives Matter and the value of the lives of people of African descent.
