Duchess Meghan & Role of Values in Fashion

At the British Fashion Council’s 2018 Fashion Awards the Duchess of Sussex was the special guest and presented the British Designer of the Year Womenswear Award to  Givenchy’s Clare Waight Keller. Keller designed the duchess’ iconic wedding gown. Meghan Markle is an example of a successful woman supporting another successful woman proving that there is room for more than one successful woman at the top.

Duchess Meghan’s speech was as follows-“Good evening, everyone. It is such a pleasure to be here celebrating British fashion and British fashion designers in my new home of the U.K. It’s so nice to see so many familiar faces, many of you I’ve known for quite a while and a lot of you I’ve been able to meet in the past year, so thank you for the warm welcome.

As all of you in this room know, we have a deep connection to what we wear. Sometimes it’s very personal; sometimes it’s emotional. But for me, this connection is rooted in, really, being able to understand that it’s about supporting and empowering each other, especially as women. When we choose to wear a certain designer, we’re not just a reflection of their creativity and their vision, but we’re also an extension of their values in something of the fabric, so to speak, that is much more meaningful.

I recently read an article that said the culture of fashion has shifted from one where it was cool to be cruel to now, where it’s cool to be kind.’ To that point, I feel especially proud to announce tonight’s winner who, yes, is a British designer leading on the global stage with vision and creativity, but also with incredible kindness, which is why when I met her for the first time 11 months ago, I knew that we’d be working very closely together. The winner this evening is Clare Waight Keller.- Duchess Meghan of Sussex

Since the Duchess of Sussex the former Meghan Markle practices what she preaches at the awards she wore Duchess of Sussex wearing Pippa Small jewelry   bangles and stud earrings proudly made by artisans of the Turquoise Mountain foundation in Afghanistan.

When Duchess Meghan visited Edinburgh with her then fiance Prince Harry she accessorized with the Edinburgh based label Strathberry handbag and of course they were sold out it seems that the Duchess puts a lot of emphasis into the brands that she decides to promotes this in in the Strathberry was started by a husband and wife team who want to Scotland to have its own brand of leather handbags. This support of entrepreneurship and local businesses by the Duchess propelled this unknown brand into a global brand .They saw sales increase by 2 to 300% the number of visitors to the website increased tenfold and sales increase up to 2240% due to brand awareness these are some of the things that the Duchess of Sussex has done for the local fashion industry of the United Kingdom.
