Harry & Meghan Promoting Conservation, Community & Culture in Africa

They may have come from different worlds but Meghan and Harry are united in their individual work in Africa. Harry and Meghan are partners in conservation promoting sustainable coexistence between people and lions using cultural values, community participation and science across Africa. Before they both married they had done extensive work in Africa. Princess Meghan did not start charity work in Africa after she married Prince Harry she was an independent woman who worked independently in African and the two of them have become a power couple promoting the cause of youth across Africa.

Conservation Mission

The famous picture of Princess Diana while on a visit to the landmine area in Angola during her 1997 visit is well known. The picture of Prince Harry’s mother Princess Diana with her protective gear walking through the landmine area was iconic. This was in support of the HALO Trust. It showed Princess Diana’s passion and commitment to the cause of saving communities and saving lives.

Angola is well known for some of the world’s most important remaining wilderness. The presence of live landmines is making the area an unsafe and highly risky place for the locals. One of the developmental projects is to sustain the development and encourage conservation while developing.

Harry’s first overview of this active landmines was in 2013 during the Halo Trust program. He was able to get a first-hand experience of the destructive impact of the landmines in the area. Prince Harry had been involved in the development of African countries since his very first visit to the continent sometimes in 1997.

Sussex Royal engaged their followers to nominate #ForcesForChange #WorldLionDay  One of the accounts SussexRoyal now following is @LionGuardians_, a conservation organisation that works with Maasai warriors in Kenya and across other parts of Africa ‘to promote sustainable coexistence between people and lions using cultural values, community participation and science.’ Working closely to understand the cultural context on the ground in Africa, this organisation has helped to transform former lion killers into skilled trackers and in 2018 they were responsible for stopping 24 lion hunts.

Through the years, Prince Harry has been in and out of the African continent on both public and private trips. He has been instrumental in conservation works. Most especially with the rhinos and the elephants. This is coupled with the intervention for the local inhabitants while understanding their struggles and providing solutions where necessary.

Prince Harry is the president of the African parks in Botswana. This is a Rhino conservation initiative for the preservation and conservation of rhinos in the Botswana area of Africa.

Prince Harry is also a co-founder of Sentebale as far back as 2006 with Prince Seeiso from Lesotho. This is a charitable organization aimed at supporting young people who are affected by HIV and AIDS. This charitable project is functional around the Lesotho, Malawi, and Botswana region.

Interestingly, Meghan also shares some deep ties with Africa. For world vision Canada, She is one of the global ambassadors. She also was in Rwanda for the famous clean water campaign. She is well known for her energetic activities to give back to people by meeting needs purposely. She has always wanted to give back to people who are in need and feed the soul of those that thirst.

The upcoming Royal Susex Tour of Africa 2019 is expected to be an opportunity to highlight local African voices. These nations include South Africa, Malawi, Angola, and Botswana. Both Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan have been advocates for African causes both individually and as a family for the development and conservation in African nations.

    Most people are so dismissive of us Africans. Here Harry and Meghan consider our culture as well. Doria abd Diana did a fine job raising these two. They can relate to their environment.
