Royal Foundation Split: William’s Lack of Leadership

Prince William and Prince Harry set up the Royal Foundation in 2009 as their joint venture.  It is no secret that the royal foundation led by Prince William became the Titanic. The Concord Leadership Group study found that  49% of nonprofits lack a strategic plan and Prince William’s royal foundation was no exception. Prince William is future King and the buck stops with him. In America when an organization is fails the leader is expected to take responsibility. President Truman was famous for stating “The buck stops here”

In Britain these days all blame goes to Meghan Duchess of Sussex because it is convenient to blame the foreigner, bi-racial woman who is married to the most popular Prince. Blaming others for your shortcomings is not leadership it is weak and wreaks of insecurity. There is need for self reflection on the part of the British media and taking personal responsibility is leadership. You cannot fix what do not acknowledge. Prince or commoner one who assumes leadership must take responsibility.

Here are the reasons why:

Lack of strategic leadership

Lacking direction, strategy and forward planning: during the past year, the charity has been developing and implementing new systems to ensure that its priorities, plans and objectives are clear and robust, and are aligned with the strategies of each of our Patrons. This rigour in planning and decision making will continue as The Royal Foundation develops its budget to support the 3- year strategic plan over the coming year. –

Insufficient reserves: the level of reserves marginally increased during the year; however, they did not increase sufficiently in line with the growth of the organisation to maintain the level of reserves at 12 months of operational costs. During the past year, the charity invested in its fundraising team and recruited additional skills and expertise to mitigate this risk, by focussing on diversifying the fundraising strategy and improving stewardship.

Adverse publicity, following receipt of funds from an inappropriate source. The Royal Foundation mitigates this risk by conducting due diligence on the source of funds in line with The Royal Foundation’s robust gift acceptance policy. This policy is reviewed annually, and more frequently when it requires further strengthening.

Project failure or limited impact: the innovative and complex nature of several of the charity’s programmes implies an increased risk of limited impact. This risk is mitigated through taking a rigorous approach to decision-making, recruiting sector expertise and seeking external knowledge where needed, and maintaining strong financial control. During the year, two directors of Insight & Innovation and Programmes & Partnership joined to support the programme team and ensure that a considered and structured approach is taken throughout the complete programme cycle, from concept through to exit.

Lower fundraising caused by uncertainty during the review period of the Principals’ charitable activity, which includes reviewing the structure of The Royal Foundation.

Prince William leader of Royal Foundation

Conclusion- in the words of Shakespeare something is rotten in the Royal Foundation. Team reflects leadership and the failure of the royal foundation are a reflection on the head the future King himself Prince William. Its not Duchess Meghan’s fault, British people must stop xenophobic attacks on the american Princess. William is the leader and his word is final so the success or failure of the Royal foundation is a reflection on him. Everyone knows that if a leader accepts mediocrity as reflected in the audit report published in 2019 then that is tone that the organization will take.
