While on royal tour of South Africa in 2019 the Duchess also visited a memorial for murdered South Africa student Uyinene Mrwetyana.

Meghan tied a ribbon at the site where Mrwetyana was killed, “to show solidarity with those who have taken a stand against gender-based violence and femicide.” She also paid her condolences to Mrwetyana’s mother.

it was important for Meghan, as a mother herself, to make the trip to Uvalde and extend her condolences and support to the Texas community during this difficult time. She visited the memorial site, outside of Uvalde County Court, leaving a bouquet of white roses at the base of one of the memorial headstones.

Residents in Uvalde were appreciative that the Duchess used her platform to pay respect to their loved ones. Their opinion is the only one that matters.

The Duchess offered her support to those who are helping in the community. Volunteers at the Texas Blood and Tissue told reporters that she brought them some food and beverages. Many people who were there did not even know it was her until after she left. She was careful not to draw attention to herself but to use her voice to shed light on the tragedy.
