Princess Diana from outsider to royal standard bearer

Princess Diana and Prince Charles were what we call a Power couple today. In the 1980s princesses were expected to be trophy wives; to be content being seen not heard.  Diana changed all that and became the other half to the power couple upon her marriage to Prince Charles. Buckingham palace lacked leadership regarding harnessing Princess Diana’s star power which led to the war of the Wales’. Princess Diana’s star power could have been used to reinforce brand Windsor for the ages.  Instead palace forces undermined her to try and make other shine. The outcome of this is that brand Diana got more influence and the brand Windsor waned.

Diana the Super Mom

Diana travelled with her children even when on tour. She refused to leave her children being cared for by nannies The Queen left her children for 6 months or longer during royal tours.

Diana was the first royal mother to be fully involved in the raising of her own children. The Queen was content to leave her children in the company of nannies. Diana used nannies mainly when she was on royal duties.

Today it is unthinkable that a royal mother would go on tour and leave her children in the care of nannies.

Humanitarian

Princess Diana’s actions such as shaking hands without gloves were considered breaking protocol in the 1980s are now the mode of operation in the British royal family today. Princess Anne still does not shake hands with the public and is heavily criticized for this.

Princess Diana removed the stigma regarding AIDS in the 1980s when she shook hands with an AIDS patient. Diana’s actions led to people with AIDS being recognized for their humanity.

Princess Diana’s was a determined defender to the voiceless. Her presence shed a spotlight on the forgotten people in society. The people in Angola who lived in landmine infested lands. Diana shed light on issues such as homelessness that people in Britain wanted to sweep under the rug.

Princess Diana was more than a symbol. She was a real person who made a connection to people. She single handedly made monarchy relevant in the 20st century.

Princess Diana’s legacy of kindness, togetherness,  her ability to connect with people and make community alliances lives on in her son Prince Harry; his wife Duchess Meghan and her grandson Archie Harrison.

    And still they never learned for they are using another tactic that of weaponising racisim towords the Duchess othering her hoping to bring her down but the more they try the more the Sussexes will shine for a gem cannot be burried or hidden.
